Powering the future for workforce development

Proud to lead Australia’s clean energy workforce transformation, connecting people, training, and industry to power the transition to a net zero future.

The Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence is proud to lead Australia’s clean energy workforce transformation, connecting people, training, and industry to power the transition to a net zero future.

As the nation’s first Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence, our mission is clear: to build a future-ready workforce that meets the growing demands of Western Australia’s booming clean energy sector. With over $200 billion in clean energy investment and more than 351,000 jobs projected nationally by 2050, the need for skilled workers has never been greater.

A central hub for collaboration and innovation

The Centre serves as the front door to Australia’s clean energy skills ecosystem. We bring together government, industry, education and training providers, and community to align training with real-world needs. Through our partnerships with the State Training Board, the TAFE Collaboration Group, and other key stakeholders, we are translating workforce challenges into practical, scalable training solutions.

Our work spans the coordination of training infrastructure, curriculum, and equipment investment across WA, and the promotion of clean energy careers to inspire the next generation of workers.

Supporting business and industry

For businesses and investors, the Centre is a trusted partner in workforce development. We listen to your needs and broker targeted training solutions through our national network of TAFE colleges, private training providers, and universities. Our current initiatives prioritise high-demand roles in electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and engineering trades across solar, wind, battery storage, and the broader clean energy supply chain. As the sector evolves, so too will our focus – ensuring we remain responsive to emerging technologies, workforce needs, and industry opportunities.

With WA’s electricity sector workforce projected to grow by up to 4% annually through to 2050, we are preparing now to meet the demand for thousands of skilled tradespeople.

Empowering trainers and learners

The Centre is also working closely with the education and training sectors to attract and retain skilled lecturers and trainers. We are co-designing a Clean Energy VET Practitioner Capability Plan and developing a national Community of Practice to support professional growth and innovation in clean energy training.

Our interactive web portal will offer free, high-quality teaching and learning resources, while our Grants Program provides funding for projects that enhance clean energy training delivery. From secondary schools to universities, we are expanding outreach and creating new pathways - like clean energy taster programs and higher apprenticeships - to inspire learners and support a just, inclusive transition.

A call to collaborate

We believe that building a resilient clean energy workforce requires deep collaboration. That’s why we’re inviting industry, educators and trainers, and community leaders to join us in shaping the future. Together, we can ensure that all Western Australians – particularly First Nations peoples and women - have the opportunity to thrive in a sustainable economy.

Looking ahead

The Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence is just getting started. As we lead the charge in building a future-ready workforce, our priorities will continue to evolve alongside the clean energy sector. What remains constant is our commitment to collaboration, innovation, and inclusion.

Together - with industry, trainers, government, and communities - we’re leading Australia’s clean energy workforce transformation, connecting people, training, and industry to power the transition to a net zero future.
